FRIDAY LUNCHTIME CONCERT – 18 July 2025
FRIDAY LUNCHTIME CONCERT 18th July at 12.30 p.m.
Venue:- York Unitarian Church, St Saviourgate, York, YO1 8NQ
This week sees the welcome return of cellist Catherine Strachan, bringing us a varied programme from familiar and not-so-familiar composers. Nadia Boulanger was a renowned composition teacher who taught many twentieth century composers, so here is a chance to hear her own music. Helene Liebmann was writing around a century earlier, and this Sonata is a lively and virtuosic work, with a familiar melody in the third movement – come along to find out what it is!
David Hammond will be playing some of the pieces on an 1830s Broadwood square piano, which evens the balance between cello and piano as the sound is not as powerful as a modern grand.
Tickets £8, cash only at the door.
